Samsung has started rolling out a redesigned SmartThings app for Android, launching version 1.8.51.30 through the Google Play Store and Galaxy Store.

The Android rollout follows the release of version 1.7.51 on Apple iOS on September 29, 2026, establishing visual and functional parity across both ecosystems.

Home Tab Changes

The updated Home tab shifts to a more compact layout where device and routine cards can be resized and rearranged on the display. Daily controls also require fewer steps: tapping a card's icon directly toggles power or triggers a routine, while tapping elsewhere on the card opens full device settings.

At the top of the screen, a new SmartThings Now panel provides local weather updates and suggested automations alongside a Favorites section for pinned devices.

Additional interface and performance updates include:

  • A floating, pill-shaped bottom navigation bar.
  • A Routine Insights feature highlighting the user's top three most frequently used routines and their recent activity.
  • A refreshed smart TV and monitor remote featuring a light mode option, as well as controls to resize and reposition the remote on the screen.
  • Faster response times for devices connected to a SmartThings hub when the smartphone and hub share the same Wi-Fi network.

Samsung Sound Integration

Alongside the redesign, Samsung confirmed it will discontinue the standalone Samsung Sound companion app on March 31, 2027.

In an in-app notice, Samsung stated, "To provide a more convenient and unified experience, the Samsung Sound app is being integrated into SmartThings." Wi-Fi speaker and soundbar controls will consolidate back into the primary app. While deeper device-specific plugin menus within SmartThings continue to reflect legacy styling, Samsung has not yet detailed the geographic schedule for the global version 1.8.51.30 rollout.
