Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Draws Critical Praise for Cohesive Lineup
With a 79 Metascore on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort wins praise for expanded modes while drawing criticism over familiar mechanics.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort arrived worldwide on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026, delivering 12 sports on Wuhu Island. The lineup includes staples such as Archery, Boxing, and Table Tennis, alongside leisure activities like Skateboarding and Power Cruising.
Early reviews have been largely positive, with GameSpot and Nintendo Life each awarding the game a 9/10 score. Kurt Indovina of GameSpot described the title as a "greatest hits" collection, calling it the most cohesive package in the franchise to date. Nintendo Life critic Jim Norman similarly observed that the release is "everything Switch Sports should have been at launch and more."
The package uses updated Joy-Con 2 motion sensors, mouse controls, and HD Rumble to alter how familiar events feel. In Archery, the controller simulates the tension of pulling a bowstring, while Boxing adds an on-screen stamina gauge to curb wild arm swings and reward defensive timing. Unlike the 2022 entry, which tied cosmetics to online matches, this game lets players earn customization items through offline play.
Mixed Responses to Familiar Mechanics
Despite enthusiasm for the broader activity list, reviewers remain divided over its originality. While several critics praise the refinement, others cited by GameDaily and Digitec Magazine criticized the release as "more of the same," pointing to dated visuals and limited mechanical innovation. The title holds an aggregate Metascore of 79 based on 46 reviews, reflecting an ongoing debate between players satisfied with a polished compilation and those seeking a wider departure from earlier Wii and Switch entries.

Omitted Sports and Multiplayer Limitations
The new entry also drops several sports featured in previous games, leaving out Chambara, Badminton, and Football. The three designated Leisure Sports (Prop Plane, Skateboarding, and Power Cruising) omit online matchmaking and CPU opponents in their competitive racing modes. Nintendo has not confirmed whether missing legacy events or expanded multiplayer features will arrive in future post-launch patches. Solo players currently have access to single-player activities, including the Island Crown challenge and island sightseeing routes.
