Apple Readies HomeView Smart Display for October 13 Debut
Apple is preparing to enter the countertop screen market with HomeView, a Siri-powered command hub aimed at challenging low-cost rivals Amazon and Google.

Apple will present its first dedicated smart home display on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, entering a category long led by low-cost alternatives from Amazon and Google. Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak previewed the launch in a 17-second video teaser with the tagline: "Welcome home. October 13."
Reporting from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicates the hardware is branded HomeView and runs on a dedicated system platform named homeOS. Trademark filings for both names have already surfaced in public records.
Two Form Factors and an A18 Chip
According to Gurman, the HomeView will come in two hardware variants: "a countertop model with a metal speaker base and a wall-mounted version with a flat, square base that sits against the wall beneath the display."
Both editions feature a square screen measuring between 6 and 7 inches diagonally. Apple plans four finishes for the countertop edition: space gray, silver, starlight, and pink. The wall-mounted model will be limited to space gray and silver. Each model runs on an A18 processor, designed to function as a "Siri command center" and process on-device machine learning tasks for connected smart accessories.
No App Store at Launch
Unlike an iPad, the HomeView will ship without an App Store or support for native third-party apps. Gurman reports that Apple is limiting the system to first-party software, customizable widgets, and Siri voice control. The interface focuses on quick household interactions, including calendar entries, weather, intercom audio, camera feeds, and HomeKit device controls.
Audio hardware is also central to the desktop model. Gurman reported that the countertop version's integrated metal speaker base will offer better audio performance than the upcoming HomePod mini 2, positioning the unit as a primary kitchen or living room speaker alongside its control duties.
Partnerships with LG, Schneider Electric, and ADT
Apple is pairing the hub with broader partner initiatives. LG is slated to manufacture hardware under the "Apple Home Collection," a lineup expected to include doorbells, smart locks, thermostats, and security cameras. In Europe, Apple is collaborating with Schneider Electric SE on energy monitoring and electrical controls.
The company is also moving to streamline installation. In July 2026, ADT began recruiting workers under nondisclosure agreements for the position of "Low Voltage Technician." Job listings and technician reports indicate ADT is preparing to handle professional in-home mounting, wiring, and network configuration for Apple's smart home hardware.
Competition with Amazon and Google
The HomeView represents Apple's attempt to gain footing in a segment where it has historically trailed competitors. Amazon established the budget smart screen category with its Echo Show series, where the Echo Show 8 sells for $89. Google followed with the second-generation Google Nest Hub at $99.
Apple has not announced retail pricing for the HomeView, though its custom aluminum base and A18 processor suggest a higher price tier than existing Echo and Nest displays. Whether consumers will pay a premium for Apple's hardware design, software ecosystem, and privacy protections remains to be seen.
Release Dates and Accompanying Hardware
Apple's October 13 event is also expected to include an updated HomePod mini featuring an S10 chip and an updated Apple TV running an A19 chip. Both accessories are projected to begin shipping on October 30, 2026, while the HomeView smart display is slated for retail release in mid-November.
