Crunchyroll and PlayStation Productions announced at New York Comic Con 2026 that the animated adaptation Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (Japanese title: Ghost of Tsushima: Kuroudo Kitan) will premiere in 2028. The new window reflects a one-year shift from the project's original 2027 target.

The anime is directed by Takanobu Mizuno, known for the Star Wars: Visions short "The Duel," with animation handled by studio Kamikaze Douga. Hayate Inc. is producing in collaboration with Aniplex and PlayStation Productions, while Sony Music serves as soundtrack partner.

Folklore Focus and Creative Team

Rather than adapting Jin Sakai's single-player story, the series focuses on the supernatural multiplayer mode released in October 2020. "Ghost of Tsushima's rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project," said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions. Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini stated that the series "will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and groundbreaking."

Gen Urobuchi oversees story composition. Reporting differs regarding script credits: GameSpot and Hypebeast report Urobuchi is co-writing with Renji Oki, while Anime News Network reports Satoshi Maejima and Urobuchi are writing the scripts.

The cast includes Japanese voice actors Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu. Saco voiced Tomoe in the 2020 PlayStation 4 game, though the production team has not confirmed whether she will reprise that role or voice a new character. Additional confirmed crew includes composer Keiji Inai, sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami, sound effects artist Yasumasa Koyama, and title calligrapher Gyousyou Suzuki.

Release Window Shift

Sony first announced the anime adaptation at CES in January 2025 with a target 2027 debut. Attendees at Crunchyroll's NYCC panel were shown a work-in-progress preview of the series, though reports noted that no official explanation was provided for moving the premiere to 2028. The series will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll upon release.
